The fact of the funds for Lift Upgrading Program (LUP) are in no way give-away by government but are drawn from taxes that paid by the whole population, and hope it should not be seen as exploited strategically by PAP to garner votes.
The participation of grassroots adviser was means denying the Singaporeans birth right and limiting citizens to participate actively in national affairs and allowed them to decide their destiny.
HDB has to recognise that we are not the subject of this country but citizens which have our country interest deep inside our heart.
The Opposition MPs are elected by the constituents and hence HDB by denying the choice of the constituents, instead choose to work with grassroots adviser who was rejected by the constituents during last general election, only reflected that due respect was not given to the constituents choice.
Although, neither Opposition MP or Opposition parties do not have an obligation to support every government programs but it does not warrant them not to render their support to the LUP which clearly beneficial to the constituents and was a mistake made by HDB earlier due to design and costing.
The Opposition MPs had actively been involved in the nomination of the precinct for lift upgrading and hence there is no reason they are excluded from the working committee.
In the barrier free access program the grassroots again have to work with the Town Council and it makes no sense to exclude the Opposition MPs and the Town Council when dealing with LUP.
The HDB has to realise that if the Opposition MPs chosen to sabotage the LUP, he will has to face the consequences of losing his seat in the next general election.
Thank you
