Press release on Myanmar's Military Junta

The Singapore Peoples Party (SPP) views with concern and condemn the use of force and violence by the Myanmar Military Junta against peaceful demonstrators last week that led to death of innocent people and by the continuing arrests and brutal crackdown on pro democracy activists.

We in the SPP call on the Military Junta to stop the use of force in its repression on the Myanmar people and to work with all democratic forces to restore democracy in Myanmar, to stop the misrule on the country, and to restore the economy to give back to the people a decent livelihood, self respect and dignity. To this end we call on the Military Junta to cooperate and work with the United Nations Special Envoy.

We call on all Asean Nations to distance themselves from the Myanmar Military Junta unless they stop their dictatorial rule and re-stall their parliament and comply with the ideals of Asean.

The SPP also wished to convey its condolences to the relatives of Myanmar Nationals whom died in the violence last week. We also wished to express our sorrow for all Myanmar Nationals who suffered from brutal crackdown in Myanmar.

Thank you.
